Web Accessibility Statement
In sincere appreciation for our rich diversity, we at Brownells, Inc. are committed to continuously improving access to our website and its functionality for all people, including those with disabilities. Beyond our legal commitment to do so under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), it’s just the right thing to do. This promotes diversity and equality in the workplace and society.
This website endeavors to conform to level AA of the World Wide Web Consortium (or "W3C") Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. These guidelines explain how to make content more accessible for people with disabilities.
This site has been built using code compliant with W3C standards for HTML and CSS and is also compliant with the W3C’s current Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG) used by developers to create fully functioning websites. The site displays correctly in all current browsers and using standards compliant HTML/CSS code means any future browsers will also display it correctly.
Nevertheless, all users including people with disabilities using our website, particularly via assisted technologies may experience better results when using certain browsers as opposed to others. We recommend that all users access our website via the following supported operating systems / browser(s):
- macOS Big Sur: Safari 16.3
- macOS Big Sur: Chrome 109.0.5414.119
- Windows 10 and 11: Chrome 109.0.5414.119
- Windows 10 and 11: Microsoft Edge 109.0.1518.78
- Apple iPhone: iOS 14+
All components on our web site are reviewed using an accessibility checklist to ensure our website is AA compliant. This checklist follows the WCAG 2.1 success criteria for AA standard. Here are some of the different areas we cover:
- Keyboard tabbing and navigation
- Page structure
- Non-text content and text alternatives
- Readability and contrast
We know some parts of the Brownells website are not fully accessible. We are aware of the following issues:
- Screen readers / magnifiers unavailable
- The tab order does not always start at the top of each page
- Ability to complete an order using only keyboard navigation
- Ability to change text size, font color, or background color
We're committed to fixing any WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility issues that stop customers from shopping and using our website. We also want to improve user experiences for customers with disabilities.
We are committed to improving our accessibility standards despite the difficulty in coping with constantly changing information technology (IT). Of course, a change to one IT platform (sometimes even a very small one) can have knock-on effects on others.
We continuously monitor and assess our website by various means (including page-testing and external vendor assessments) to ensure that the WCAG standards already met are not negated due to IT interoperability and other issues.
The E-Commerce department is responsible for Brownells, Inc.’s conformity with WCAG 2.1 and this statement has been approved by it. We will continue to revise this Web Accessibility Statement as and when necessary to comport with the latest WCAG guidelines and to announce accessibility developments and/or improvements. We ask anyone experiencing difficulty or malfunction on our website to report this by email to compliance@brownells.com or by phone at 800-741-0015.
